If you do not like broccoli, for example, then don’t eat it but substitute something that you like such as green peas. Of course, meat and other food needs to be included but if you fill up more on the vegetables then you will need less of the others. Grazing (eating small amounts several times a day) also helps to keep you on the right track. The foods that you know are fattening can be used as a reward (in small amounts) after a week or so of regular food.
3. Bring your teen to the gym with you. Most fitness clubs offer use of their entire facilities for teenagers. If this is something in your budget, it can be a great way to help your teen make exercise a part of their lives. There are so many options for working out at a gym that your teen is bound to find an activity they love. They might even be encouraged by observing healthy people at work on their bodies
4. Working out weights will build muscle and raise your metabolism so you will burn more calories. Also, muscle takes up less space than fat so you will be smaller ( but probably weigh more).
5. Dogs can give you some of the best possible exercises, when you take them for a walk. Walking your dog daily for an hour or even playing with them is a good weight loss exercise, just make sure you are not exerting your dog too much in your excitement.
6. Become running (or walking) buddies! Going for a run or brisk walk in the morning with your teen not only benefits your child, but you as well. So set those alarm clocks a little earlier and hit the road. I haven’t met many teenagers that love to jump out of bed in the morning, so you may have to use a little bribery. It takes three weeks to make something a habit, good or bad.
7. If you drink a soda or 2 a day you are adding empty calories. If you find it hard to stop completely, cut back at first and drink water instead. Avoid fried meat, grill and use lots of spices. You will get used to it and probably enjoy it more. When you go shopping, don’t go on an empty stomach and you will be less likely to buy junk food. Keep your home ‘junk food free’ so you won’t be tempted to indulge.
